The Clinical Genomic Area responds to the needs of all the services and units of the laboratories and to those of the Anatomical Pathology Service in terms of extraction and sequencing of nucleic acids. It has 5 sequencers, 3 of which use NGS technology.
The activity of this area has undergone continuous gradual growth, which has been particularly marked since late 2018, coinciding with the entry into operation of the clinical exome analysis for diagnostic purposes.
In 2019, the area’s activity in terms of DNA extraction involved 4,581 samples; DNA sequencing, 31,475 samples; gene panel sequencing (NGS), 1,313 samples; and clinical exome sequencing (NGS), 270 samples.
