The Medical Faculty is the body of the Hospital that monitors and guarantees its smooth operation, listening and responding to the needs of the physicians, giving assistance and opinions always focused on benefiting the Institution and its patients. Its objective is to achieve the maximum level of healthcare quality and clinic performance, with teaching and research in alignment, working with the maximum consensus with the Hospital management.
History
The Medical Faculty of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau ensures the professionalism of the doctors at the Institution. The Board was established at the very origins of the Hospital’s history in the Middle Ages, with the aim of guaranteeing the independence of the physicians and their activity from the Very Illustrious Administration of the Hospital de la Santa Creu, which was formed at the time by the Consell de Cent of the city of Barcelona (literally 'Council of the Hundred, now the City Council) and the Barcelona Cathedral Chapter, consisting of the Cathedral's canons.
Members
The Medical Faculty is comprised by the following groups of members:
Full members
These are the contracted qualified professionals who perform healthcare, teaching and/or research duties at the Healthcare Management Foundation of the Hospital (Fundació de Gestió Sanitària) and who form part of the Centre's permanent staff of doctors.
Each of the members of the Medical Faculty upholds the utmost responsibility in all of the healthcare, teaching and research duties they are assigned at the Hospital.
Associate members
These are the resident interns undergoing training and doctors with a temporary contract. Under the regime to which they are subject as established in the regulations, they have the right to speak but not to vote, and they cannot hold executive or representative positions.

Emeritus members
These are the doctors whose relationship with the Healthcare Management Foundation of the Hospital has come to an end due to retirement or similar circumstances, who have applied to and been approved by the Executive Council of the Medical Faculty.
Honorary members
The status of honorary member of the Hospital's Medical Faculty may be awarded to individuals that the Hospital wishes to honour due to the important services that they have provided to the institution. They are nominated by the Executive Council of the Medical Faculty, at the joint proposal of the Medical Director.
