Systemic autoimmune diseases (SAM) are a heterogeneous group of pathologies primarily caused by a disorder of the immune system and which may affect different organs of the patients.
Many SAMs are considered rare diseases, but they often affect people of working age and can cause a high morbidity and mortality rate. In view of the high degree of heterogeneity of the different SAMs, the possible compromising of different organs and potential severity, fast and flexible expert consultation and treatment circuits are required for the various SAMs in order to provide a suitable clinical and therapeutic response and improve the prognostic.
The Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau has a long history of treatment and research in the field of managing the range of SAMs, as well as their potential complications. By organizing the services as a Functional Unit enables us, in the future, to manage and standardize the treatment process, providing a holistic approach to the patient with excellent healthcare..
